Guard, Softball Inc Post Wins, Stealers Squeak By

Nov. 14, 2008 — The National Guard Hummers and Softball Inc were blowout winners in the first two games of the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball league on Thursday, while past champions Seaborne Stealers won a squeaker at the D.C. Canegata ballpark.
The Hummers knocked off 40 Caliber 13-3 in the first game and Softball Inc pummeled Salty Sailors 25-5 in game two. Both contests ended by way of the ten-run mercy rule. The Stealers had a harder time at it but was able pull out a one run, 9-8, victory over Claudio Enterprises in the late game.
Hummers 13, 40 Caliber 3
The Hummers looked, once again, like one of the teams who will be in the running for this year’s Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League crown by easily defeating 40 Caliber in five innings on Thursday. It was the Hummers with 13 runs on 20 hits with two errors while 40 Caliber had three runs on seven hits and three errors. Jerry Vialet picked up the win on the hill for the Hummers while Gabriel Jagroup got the loss. Top hitters for the Hummers were Edgardo Sanes, 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs, and Sylvester Blake was 3 for 4 with a home run and one RBI. For 40 Caliber, Jeremy Newton was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Maximilliano Soto was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
Softball Inc 25, Salty Sailors 5
The Salty Sailors really ran aground Thursday as they just could not do much with pitcher Cody St. Pierre and the rest of the Softball Inc squad. St. Pierre limited the Salty Sailors to just five runs on 12 hits while his team exploded for 25 runs on 28 hits on their way to the lopsided victory. Wade DeShazer got the loss on the hill for the Salty Sailors. Top hitters for Softball Inc were Antonio Cruz, 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs and Ariel Gil was 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs. For the Sailors, Jeff Elvins was 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Brian Bailey was 3 for 3 with one RBI.
Stealers 9, Claudio Enterprises 8
Stealers ace pitcher Sam Ramos struck out the last two batters he faced in the late game on Thursday to preserve his team’s one run victory over Claudio Enterprises, 9-8. Jeffrey Naar got the loss for Claudio. It was the Stealers with nine runs on 15 hits while Claudio had eight runs on 11 hits with two errors. Top hitters for the Stealers were Angel Torres, 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Dave Schjang was 3 for 3 with one RBI. For Claudio, Dario Linares was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Juan Moreno was 2 for 3 with one RBI.
