Public Services Commission hearing examiner Rosalie Ballentine recommended on Friday that the PSC qualify Caribe Waste Technologies as a "small production facility" for three possible plants. It's a step forward in CWT's efforts to get the go-ahead to build a gasification plant, or more than one, to process the territory's solid waste and sell the power generated to WAPA, which does not want to buy it.

TRIATHLON FEVER IS CATCHING ON, WITH PLEASURE

As Sunday's Half Ironman events get closer, the tempo is picking up for participants and planners alike. Plans for Friday night's Christiansted Jump Up had businesses hopping with joy as they looked forward to welcoming more than 900 race participants and their families and friends. EACH-ISLAND INFRASTRUCTURE BILL DRAWS SUPPORT

Representatives of various community groups came out for a Senate committee hearing on St. Croix Thursday to voice their overwhelming support for proposed legislation that would keep property- and gasoline-tax revenues on the islands where they are collected, and use the money for road upkeep, street lighting and water service.
