Every year, for the month of October, The VI Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council (DVSAC) has sponsored an annual theater production on community violence. “Momma Was A BAD Mutha… Shut Yo Mouth,” a compelling, provocative autobiographical one-woman show will take to the stage, once on St. Thomas and once on St. Croix. It is written and performed by award-winning actor, writer and producer, Fylicia “Fee” Renee King and directed by Sammie Wayne V. (for tickets, go to www.vidvsac.org)
It’s 1982 and a movin,’ groovin’ house party deep in the sticks of Omaha, Neb., is the backdrop of this universal story of a young girl’s untimely coming of age amidst her mother’s wild weekend house parties. Her story is about a girl/woman who has survived sexual abuse, witnessed domestic abuse and known the turbulence that comes with life when raised by a single mother who did the best she could with what she knew.
