Emancipation Day Fort-to-Fort ‘Walk to Freedom’

The public is invited to join in the commemoration of the 171st Anniversary of Emancipation Day. The walk is approximately 15-miles. Participants are asked to assemble downtown across from Fort Christian for 4:30 a.m. For those who would like to park their vehicle at Fort Frederik, a van will leave from the bus shanty located next to the Fort at 4:05 a.m. A shuttle will be available to provide transportation back to Christiansted. Participants are asked to wear white clothing, comfortable shoes and a hat. There will be water, drinks and light refreshments along the way. A van will accompany walkers for those who may get tired. The event is hosted by Sen. “Positive” Nelson.
