LITTLE MISS DELTA PAGEANT DATE SET

The eighth Little Miss Delta pageant will be held on Sunday, April 4, at Charlotte Amalie High School Auditorium, at 4:00 p.m.

GOODWIN: MERGE HOUSING AGENCIES

The three agencies that deal with housing in the Virgin Islands should be merged, Sen. George Goodwin said after a Senate hearing Tuesday.

LANDFILL WORKERS BACK PENDING PAYMENT

Employees of S and S Services Corp. are back at the Bovoni landfill pending an expected payment from the government this week. Workers walked off the job last week because the government owes the company more than $600,000, the owner said.

CARIBBEAN COLOUR OPENS AT CORAL WORLD

The upper level of the observatory at Coral World turned out to be the perfect place for an art show -- the 11th annual St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council Caribbean Colour Art Exhibit, which opened March 21 and continues through April 18.

MAN, 39, ARRESTED IN RAPE OF 13-YEAR-OLD

Police late Monday night arrested David Eddie, 39, of Estate Tutu 173-134 on charges of aggravated rape in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl Friday morning in Anna's Retreat. Judge Ishmael Meyers on Tuesday refused to accept 10 percent of his $150,000 bail in exchange for Eddie's release.

SUMMIT'S OVER; WHAT NEXT?

We were, we must admit, among the skeptics who wondered whether last week’s Economic Summit would result in anything more than gum-batting.
We still are. But we hope our skepticism proves unfounded.

FRENCHTOWN FIGHTS BACK

A string of brazen burglaries in Frenchtown — some in broad daylight — has raised the ire of residents and business owners in the normally safe and tranquil neighborhood. In response, the Committee for the Betterment of Carenage, a local nonprofit group, has set a general meeting March 31 to develop a plan to check the pattern of crime developing in the area.

THE SAME OLD STUFF? YES, BUT

Some say the Legislature's recent economic summit was just more of the same. Frank Jordan says yes — but there it doesn't have to be. "What is needed," Jordan says, " is some way to translate the intelligence and energy of the summit into a coherent plan of action. "

JAZZMAN FADDIS TO PERFORM AT REICHHOLD

The University of the Virgin Islands Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Martin K. Lampkin will perform in concert at 8 p.m. this Friday, March 26 at the Reichold Center for the Arts.
