Three Ecuadorian Nationals Sentenced in Major Cocaine Smuggling Case

Three Ecuadorian men received 78-month prison sentences for cocaine smuggling, United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced.

Mario Montano Camacho, 41, and Juan Ignacio Reyes Delgado, 48, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine while on board a vessel subject to US jurisdiction. Edison Quijije Cuzme, 35, received the same sentence earlier this month. All three face deportation after serving their sentences, according to court documents.

The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a โ€œgo-fastโ€ vessel approximately 110 nautical miles west of Ecuador on Dec. 22, 2023. The vessel, traveling at high speed without a flag or identifying markings, was pursued and found to be discarding packages overboard. Authorities later recovered approximately 1,261 kilograms of cocaine, the court documents said.
