The Virgin Islands Department of Education through its Division of Human Resources is embarking on an initiative to promote higher standards of safety in the territory’s public schools, according to a press release from HR Director Karen L. Blyden. Blyden says that her division, acknowledging the importance of school safety, invites all education personnel to participate in a territory-wide effort to raise the standards in school and workplace safety.
Her first goal is to provide first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) trainingto all staff. “The successful implementation of this project will be determined by the number of interested Education staff members who register and obtain a valid first aid/ CPR license,” Blyden said. “Feedback from staff is a critical factor in determining the scope of this training and development initiative to be implemented by the division during the 2009-2010 school year. We are encouraging all staff to consider participating in this training. It is an important and necessary training as it can be invaluable both professionally and personally in helping to save lives.
