Feb. 28, 2008 — Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen announced Thursday the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $212,058.00 in funding for the Emergency Food and Shelter (EFS) Program.
The EFS program, in existence since 1983, can account for millions of additional meals and nights of shelter to the hungry and homeless in need across the country.
The EFS program is chaired by FEMA and comprised of representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, USA, United Jewish Communities, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, the Salvation Army, and the United Way of America. They assist in providing supplemental funding to shelters, soup kitchens, and food banks. The funds are used to help individuals and families with non-disaster, temporary emergency needs.
