March 7, 2008 — Anchor Dive, Speak the Word and Wyatt Heat came away winners Thursday night in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League at the D.C. Canegata ball park.
Anchor Dive 19, Cross Tech 11
In game one, Anchor Dive got by Cross Tech 19-11. Anchor Dive had 19 runs on 15 hits with three errors, while Cross Tech had 11 runs on 15 hits with two errors.
The winning pitcher was Edwin Sankitts, with Bill Harris picking up the loss for Cross Tech. Top hitters for Anchor Dive were Leandro Reyes, 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs; Carmelo Torres, 5 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs; and Mario Simmonds, 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For Cross Tech, Joey Jones went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Randy Reeves went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Speak the Word 16, Cartel 15
Game two Thursday night was a barn burner, but when the smoke cleared Speak the Word ministries edged out the Cartel 16-15. Speak the Word scored 16 runs on 15 hits with two errors, while the Cartel had 15 runs on 11 hits while committing three errors. Sylvester McIntosh got the win for Speak the Word, and James Smith picked up the loss for the Cartel. Speak the Word was led offensively by Norbert Pickering, who went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs; Jose Robles, 4 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs; and Kareem Dennis, 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. For the Cartel, Daren Lewis went 4 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs, while Eddie Dunkirk went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Wyatt Heat 9, National Guard 7
Wyatt Heat slipped by the National Guard Hummers 9-7 in the nightcap. The Heat had nine runs on 12 hits with three errors, while the Hummers had seven runs on nine hits with two errors. Kennedy Feist got the win on the hill for the Heat and Stanley Jones got the loss for the Hummers. Top hitters for the Heat were Paul Medlin, 2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs; Feist, 4 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs; and Dwayne Harvey, 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. For the Hummers, Wayne Scott and Wayne Ross both went 2 for 3 with one RBI apiece.
