Sixth Constitutional Convention Nomination Papers Available for Prospective Candidates

Elections System of the Virgin Islands

Supervisor of Elections Caroline F. Fawkes is reminding prospective candidates for the Sixth Constitutional Convention Nomination Papers are available. Act 8681 established the convention, which is composed of 15 delegates who must be elected from the legislative districts of the Virgin Islands, as established 2 V.I.C. § 101 and 102. Seven delegates from the St. Croix District, seven delegates from the St. Thomas/St. John District and one delegate from the island of St. John.

Supervisor Fawkes clarifies aspirants who reside on St. John can obtain a nomination paper for the St. Thomas-St. John District.

No person may file a petition to be a candidate for delegate, be elected to or be seated as a member of the Constitutional Convention unless the person is:

(1) a citizen of the United States;

(2) a qualified voter of the Virgin Islands; and

(3) a bona fide resident of the Virgin Islands.

All delegates to the constitutional convention must be elected through an election that must be held on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November in the year 2024.

Sixth Constitutional Convention Nomination Papers will remain available until Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Elections System Offices territory-wide. Office locations and times are as follows:

St. Croix Elections Office at Sunny Isles Shopping Center Unit 24 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily)

St. Thomas Elections Office at Lockhart Gardens (upstairs Banco Popular) (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily)

St. John Elections Office at Market Place Suite II. (Tuesdays and Thursdays – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily)

In closing, Supervisor Fawkes reminds potential aspirants for the convention that while the election for the Sixth Constitutional Convention is November 5, aspirants must file their nomination papers by 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 21.
