DOP Updates Installment of Retroactive Wage Payouts Regarding Survivor Claims

In anticipation of the commencement of the end-of-year retroactive wage payments, Director of the Division f Personnel Cindy L. Richardson announces a 14 percent (14%) application towards the remaining retroactive wage compensation balances owed, less taxes and social security. Payments will be distributed to all eligible active, separated and retired Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI) employees who were in the classified service during 1990-2001. If someone was an exempt employee during this time frame, this payment would not apply to that person.

Given the information provided, the Division of Personnel is also now accepting retroactive wage compensation claims from survivors of eligible active, separated or retired employees. Survivors are encouraged to initiate the claim process, beginning on Dec. 6.

To submit a survivor claim, visit the Division of Personnel website at www.dopusvi.org/retrodashboard, select the applicable year and then click on special instructions. All submitted claims will undergo a thorough review and validation process. Regardless of the person’s relationship to the deceased employee, all survivors will be required to upload the following documents to the division’s website: Valid Government Photo ID, Death Certificate, Marriage Certificate (spouses of the deceased employees/retirees), Birth Certificate (children of the deceased employees/retirees), Notarized Affidavit, W-9 form, Trust, Will and any other relevant supporting documents demonstrating the relationship to the deceased.

It is important to note that each claim submission requires the inclusion of all necessary documents. If anyone has submitted these forms in prior years’ claims, please note that these documents must be submitted with each new claim.

For survivors’ payment consideration in the current allocation, all claims must be submitted on or before May 31, 2024. If there are any inquiries or concerns, please reach out to the Division of Personnel via email at retro@dop.vi.gov

Additionally, the division’s dedicated hotline at 714-5010 is available for those who need to speak with a Division of Personnel representative. Individuals are encouraged to visit www.dopusvi.org/retrodashboard and preview the frequently asked questions for more information.

Payment processing will be conducted by the Department of Finance.
