Partners for Strings Virgin Islands Youth Orchestra is inviting youth, ages 8 to 17 to participate in a free summer workshop that starts on Thursday, June 8, on St. Croix.  Partners for Strings Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the U.S. Virgin Islands operates the Partners for Strings Virgin Islands Youth Orchestra.  The youth orchestra began holding weekly sessions on St. Thomas in 2022 at G-Clef Music Academy in Mandela Circle.  This is the first step in expanding the youth orchestra to the ‘Big Island.’

The St. Croix Summer Workshop will be held at G-Clef Music Academy in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center.  G-Clef is located in the corridor near Rainbow and Clara’s Special Occasions. The workshop sessions will take place on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  The program will run from June 8 to July 22.

Partners for Strings’ main objective is to target students who are at risk and underserved or under-resourced.  President Gloria Gumbs said, “We essentially use music to inspire young lives. Their futures depend on us getting involved.  Music is a very positive activity that will enhance their abilities and help them to become better contributors to our community.  If your child loves music, wants to make friends, and wants to express him or herself through music, this summer workshop will be a good fit.”

This project is jointly supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington D.C., a federal agency.  The St. Croix Summer Workshop is also being supported by G-Clef Music Academy and the V.I. Housing Authority.

Parents can register online for the summer workshop by visiting www.partnersforstrings.org.   Parents can also call 228-1126 if they have any questions or desire more information.
