Health Advisory: Possible Health Risks for Direct Exposure to Sewage Spill

The V.I. Waste Management Authority notified the community of a failure of the LBJ Pump Station, resulting in a sewage spill in the surrounding Christiansted area on April 10 through April 13.

The V.I. Department of Health is advising the St. Croix community, especially those involved in the cleanup effort, that direct contact with harmful, infectious, or chemical wastes may cause illness.

If you experience symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, altered mental status, fever, seizures, confusion, headaches and/or weakness or numbness around the body, please seek immediate medical attention from a local provider or at the Juan F. Luis Hospital Emergency Room.

If there are any questions regarding the LBJ Pump Station, please contact the Division of Education and Communications Management at 340-643-0410 or email communications@viwma.org.
