St. Croix Track Club Competes in Puerto Rico on Two Consecutive Weekends

On March 11, the St. Croix Track Club 10 athletes, ages 14 through 18, attended the Association of Youth/Junior Athletics’ (AAJI) first of two qualification Track & Field events in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Each athlete is allowed to compete in two events where the top eight in the lane events (100m, 200m, 400m), the top 12 in field events, and the top 15 in distance events will qualify for the finals in May.

Athletes competing were Jeniqua Weeks, Akyra Joseph, J’Neolise Green, Mandisa Casey, Nicholus Baptiste, Wilfredo Concepcion, Ryan Moorehead, Davina Browne and Denzel Huggins. Top finishers who may qualify for the finals based on the 2nd Qualification Track & field meet are:

Wilfredo Concepcion –1st in Shot Put and 3rd in Javelin in 9.69m and 38.58m respectively in the 16/17 age group

Davina Browne — 3rd in Javelin – 19.30m and 7th in Shot Put – 7.35m – 16/17 age group

Akyra Joseph — 4th in Javelin -15.42m and 5th in Shot Put- 7.84m -16/17 age group

Jeniqua Weekes — 6th in the 400m in 64.42sec – 14/15 age group

Nicholus Baptiste — 8th in the 400m in 60.07sec – 14/15 age group

Mandis Casey — 6th in the Javelin in 12.84m – 16/17 age group

J’Neolise Green — 6th in the 100m in 13.36 – 16/17 age group

The following weekend, March 18, eight Mustangs in the Under 14 age group traveled to Cobo Rojo, Puerto Rico, to qualify for the finals in May. Athletes competing were Olivia Jones, Katelyn Jones, Safiya Prasad, Juvante Hurst, Faith Eatmon, Aminah Prasad, Malachi Maclorrain and Juvantia Hurst. The top finishers who may qualify for the finals based on the 2nd Qualification Track & Field meet are:

Safiya Prasad—1st in 60m Hurdles-10.49sec and 4th in High Jump – 1.20m -12/13 group

Juvante Hurst—2nd in 80m Hurdles-14.42 and 2nd in High Jump – 1.35m-12/13 group

Faith Eatmon—2nd in High Jump—1.25m and 6th in 80m—11.41sec-12/13 group

Aminah Prasad—2nd in 60m Hurdles-11.26sec and 5th—High Jump—1.15-12/13 group

Malachi Maclorrain—3rd in 50m –8.00sec and 3rd in 200m—31.12-10/11 group

Juvantia Hurst—2nd in 50m Hurdles-8.95sec

Katelyn Jones—4th in 1000m Race Walk-7:25.25sec
