Virgin Islanders Doing Well at FINA World Swimming Championships in Australia

The U.S. Virgin Islands sent three swimmers to the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2022 in Melbourne, Australia, which began on Dec. 13 and will finish on Dec. 18.  FINA is French: Fédération internationale de natation; the English translation is International Swimming Federation).

St. Croix native and USVI Olympian Natalia Kuipers set two new Virgin Islands open records in the 400-meter freestyle (4:26.11) and 800-meter freestyle (9:03.17).  Max Wilson from St. Thomas set new 15-17 boy V.I. records in the 50-meter backstroke (24.31) and 100-meter backstroke (53.23).  US VI Olympian Adriel Sanes set a new V.I. open record in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:12.69) and still has the 50-meter breaststroke to swim.
