District Court of VI Issues 41st Order on Operations During COVID-19 Outbreak

The District Court of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In so doing, the Honorable Robert A. Molloy, chief judge, issued the Forty-first Order Concerning Operations of the District Court of the Virgin Islands during the COVID-19 Outbreak on Saturday, July 30.

The court remains open for official business in both divisions of the court to include the grand jury proceedings, Central Violations Bureau proceedings, and in-person Naturalization Ceremonies as approved by the presiding judicial officer. Civil and criminal jury trials may be held before any judge or magistrate judge in either division of the court as determined and scheduled by the presiding judge.

Teleconference and videoconference hearings shall be permitted in accordance with the Thirty-Ninth Order Concerning Operations of the District Court of the Virgin Islands, Video and Teleconferences for Criminal Proceedings, entered on June 28.

Clerk’s Office in-person counter services will continue, except payments in cash will not be accepted. Payments may be made by personal check, credit and debit cards, money order or certified bank check, except criminal debts cannot be paid by personal check or credit and debit cards.

This order shall remain in effect for the period of Aug. 1 – 31 unless it or any portion thereof is modified, terminated earlier, or extended by further Order of the Court.
