The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation, in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Park, and Recreation, hosted the VI National Track and Field Championships on June 24 and 25 at the St. Croix Educational Complex Track and Field facility.
Highlights of the Championships were Michelle Smith from the St. Croix Track Club, setting a new VI National Junior Record in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 58.11.
Maia Campbell, the VITFF’s senior athlete, set a Championship record in the Shot Put of 16.54m. VITFF senior athlete Malique Smith set a facility record in the 400m Hurdles with a 53.24. Malique Smith also won a gold medal in the 200m.

Michelle Smith is preparing to represent the Virgin Islands in the World Athletics U20 Championships, held in Cali, Columbia, from Aug. 1 through 6.
