POLITRICKS
Politricks is a subject where the math won’t compute,
Where the facts and figures don’t always tell the truth.
Where friends and enemies are both the same,
They change back and forth according to the game.
You can switch parties at the drop of a hat,
Discard your loyalties with the stealth of a cat.
Political strategists have a no-fail plan,
The winner is sure to be their ‘man’.
Many promises made, but a few are filled,
Some dreams flourish and some are killed.
Hours are spent canvassing the ‘hood,
But still don’t know folk the way they should.
“I can make things better!” they proclaim so openly,
While quietly they’re asking, “what’s in it for me?”
When their term is over, they are set for life,
While those who went and voted still have to sacrifice.
They talk about God, the youth and crime,
The rhetoric’s so common it sounds like a rhyme.
Our elders are precious, they mention them too,
Yet long-term resources remain very few.
Voters talk and complain, they have their say,
But it does not translate on election day.
Your wins may depend on the votes you get,
But with the right endorsement you are set.
Are you a team player, can you compromise?
Do you understand where the truth lies?
Make yourself look good without others looking bad?
To avoid mudslinging shouldn’t be hard.
Hands under the table and in the cookie jar,
This sugar crave won’t get you far.
Love of service or love of self?
All for you and yours and no one else.
Campaign speeches orchestrated well,
But actions speak louder as we can tell.
Accountability should not be a farce,
If you want your legacy and country to last.
