“Light Dem Up: Festival of Trees” Coming to St. Croix’s Limpricht Park Friday

Limpricht Park on King Street in Christiansted will be home to “Light Dem Up: Festival of Trees.” Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., the park will be alive with holiday lights for the “Ah Glow in De Park” virtual tree lighting. The event will be televised live by WTJX Channel 12, their Facebook page and on the Crucian Cultural Group’s Facebook page.

According to Wanda Vialet, the lead coordinator for the event, there will be decorated trees sponsored by 13 groups to delight people of all ages. Sponsors include WTJX, Night Ventures, LLC, AKA Sorority, UVI RT Park, AARP, Zeta Sorority (NuChiZeta), VI Partners for Healthy Communities, Mirocha Law, Eddie Ortiz Annual Three Kings Tradition, Inc., Caravelle Hotel and Casino, Banco Popular, Mutiny Island Vodka, and Thomas Bakery in Christiansted.

Entertainment will include steel pan and flutes, Golden Voices student choir, moko jumbies, masqueraders, quadrille dancers, a madras fashion show, and much more. By Friday, Craig “Shakey” Williams and the Gentlemen of Jones will have delivered a traditional Crucian inkberry tree. Decorations of “Cultural Lights” ornaments are being made by Jessica Parker of the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts and her students. “Last year we had 16.5K viewers on the Facebook page. Viewers from the USVI, Puerto Rico, the BVIs and on the mainland enjoyed the show. I look forward to coordinating it and putting smiles on people’s faces, especially during the holidays,” Vialet said.

Crews were on site Saturday to begin decorating. Thursday, most of the work was done. For the event on Friday, traffic will be diverted from King Street at the corner of Prince Street. The park will be open to the public after 10 p.m. Friday.
