The V.I. Police Department is investigating a shooting on St. Croix that left one vehicle riddled with bullets and prompted a victim to be taken to the hospital where he was rushed into surgery.

According to police, at 9:16 p.m. Thursday the 911 emergency call center received reports of shots fired in La Grande Princesse at the Wa U Feel Like liquor store. The call center also received a report of a gunshot victim transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital via private vehicle.

Officers traveled to the scene of the shooting and found a large number of spent shell casings in the roadway and a red Jeep Gladiator truck with heavy bullet damage in the parking lot of the liquor store.

The preliminary investigation into the shooting revealed that one or more unknown gunmen opened fire on the truck, which had one occupant, then fled the area. The occupant of the truck suffered multiple gunshot wounds about the body, and was taken into immediate surgery at the hospital.

Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
