Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding important funding released to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center (JFL) and the Virgin Islands Healthcare Foundation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

“I want to thank the FCC for this infusion of $345,566 to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center Foundation to purchase telehealth devices and virtual visit software, as well as $416,002 to the Virgin Islands Healthcare to purchase remote patient monitoring systems to reduce in-person contact for providers and patients with chronic conditions who might contract COVID-19 from otherwise routine hospital visits.

“The FCC’s COVID-19 Telehealth Program supports the efforts of health care providers in continuing to serve their patients by providing reimbursement for telecommunication services, information services and connected devices necessary to enable telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we continue to fight through the evolving challenges of the pandemic, this funding will be integral to ensure that Virgin Islanders have access to the necessary telehealth care safely and effectively.”
