Personnel Launches Portal to Verify Retiree Data Ahead of $10M Retro Payout

United States Virgin Islands Division of Personnel

Government retirees over the age of 65 can log into the V.I. Division of Personnel’s website and check what they are owed ahead of an upcoming $10 million payout meant to offset outstanding retroactive wages.

Payments apply to retirees over the age of 65 who are owed retroactive wages from 1990-2001, as outlined in Act 6584. Checks are expected to be mailed out on Thursday, July 22. Beginning Tuesday, July 20, those retirees can:

  • Visit www.dopusvi.org/retirees and click on the portal titled “Retiree Retro Payments” – or visit www.dopusvi.org/comp2021.
  • Sign in with their last name and the last four digits of their social security number to access their profile.
  • Or call DOP’s dedicated Retroactive Wage hotline at 714-5010 with any questions.

This process enables all eligible retirees over the age of 65 to view their anticipated retroactive wage payout. A flat amount of $1,700 – less taxes and social security – will be distributed to those whose total retroactive obligation is equal to or greater than that amount. Retirees whose obligation is less than $1,700 will be given a check for the remainder. If the retiree’s name is not listed, it is because the DOP records indicate that the retiree is not owed retro or is not over the age of 65.

Any remaining retroactive wages will continue to be an obligation of the V.I. government. Payments may also be claimed by the surviving family upon the death of a retiree. To check if a payment is owed, survivors should follow the sign-in steps above to access DOP’s online “Retiree Compensation” portal, and click on the link at the bottom of the landing page for survivors

  • Download and fill out the W-9 form and affidavit (note that the affidavit must be notarized)
  • Email both documents back to comp2021@vi.gov.

Individuals can call the division’s hotline at 714-5010 to speak to a V.I. Division of Personnel representative who can verify information and begin the process of finalizing a payment.
