Deion Pruitt will compete in his second professional bout at the Sugar Bert Vegas in Atlanta boxing tournament in Atlanta on July 10. Sugar Bert Promotions Vegas in Atlanta Series allows viewers to watch top professional boxers from around the United States “battle it out.”

Pruitt is a U.S. Virgin Islander who started boxing in middle school as a way to defend himself against bullies. He began his amateur career in 2016 and had his first successful professional bout in March this year.

When asked about how he feels going into his second professional fight, Pruitt said, “I’m staying focused and not underestimating my opponent. I’m remembering what I do in my trainings, and I’m going to apply that in the ring.”

Though Pruitt is maintaining his focus, he does have his eye on the prize and says, “I’m ready for the win. I’m going to secure the ‘W’ again.”

Pruitt is coached by former professional boxers Julian “The Hawk” Jackson Sr. and Randy Williams. His professional record is currently 1-0 and his opponent, Randy Mast, is currently at 2-2. They will be competing in the light heavyweight division.

Pruitt was scheduled to compete in the 2021 Pan American Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in May this year, but it was canceled because of COVID-19. When asked why he isn’t one of the USVI representatives at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan this year, Pruitt said there was an opportunity for him to try to compete but the V.I. Olympic Committee missed a mandatory meeting for his chance to rank.

Pruitt’s sponsors for this fight include Kobaz Enterprises, Wilson Healthcare Consultants, Southland Gaming, and Julius The Chef Jackson.

Tickets for the fight on Saturday can be purchased here. Upon Pruitt’s return, there will be a replay of the Saturday fight for community members to view. For updates, follow Pruitt’s Instagram page at the handle deiondarryl.
