A second victim from a shooting that took place on Feb. 27 at the Corner Pocket Grillhouse and Nightclub in Estate La Reine on St. Croix died Saturday of his injuries incurred during the incident.

The V.I. Police Department identified the victim as 25-year-old Kadeem Baptiste. He was the 10th homicide victim on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 11th in the territory, according to the Source homicide list.*

Baptiste was one of six people shot on Feb. 27 at the Corner Pocket. According to the police report, at around 11:43 p.m., Feb. 27, the emergency call center received a report of shots fired and a man down at the Corner Pocket Grillhouse and Nightclub in Estate La Reine. The initial investigation revealed a verbal dispute at the establishment escalated when one of the men brandished a firearm and a shootout ensued between him and a group of men. Six individuals were wounded by the gunfire, with one man dying of his injuries at the hospital. That victim was identified as Du’Juan Tyson, 23. Four other victims received injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Baptiste, the sixth victim, was airlifted to a hospital on the mainland for treatment, where he died on March 6.

Detectives urged anyone with information on this and other recent shooting incidents to contact police by calling 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).

*The Source homicide list is compiled from V.I. Police Department reports, but unlike the VIPD list or those on some other media, it does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, which can lead to a difference in the number of incidents reported.
