D’Amour Finishes 16th in World at Indoor Archery World Series

After confirming the scores of more than 6,000 archers, World Archery has announced the final scores of the Indoor Archery World Series. After the final review of all scores in the four stages, the officials tabulated each archer’s top three scores. Nicholas D’Amour’s top three scores were 587, 590 and 591 for a combined score of 1,768.  With this score, he finished 16th overall.

Since November 2020, archers from around the world have been competing in the four stages of the Indoor Archery World Series.  In the fourth and final stage held on Feb. 12-14, D’Amour of St. Thomas tied for 17th place, with a score of 590. Brady Ellison of the United States and the top-ranked archer in the world also scored a 590 in Stage 4. Oh Jin Hyek of Korea finished in first place with a nearly perfect score of 599.

All four stages of the Indoor Archery World Series Finals have been held remotely.  More than 6,000 archers around the globe have competed in various stages. In Stage 4, D’Amour competed against 1,150 archers from around the world. In the series 1,975 archers competed in the Men’s Open Division.

The event: 60 arrows at a target set 18 meters away, using a target face measuring 40 centimeters in diameter – single spot, vertical triple spot or triangular triple spot. The recurve 10-ring measures 4 centimeters in diameter.

In the final standings of the Men’s Open Division, D’Amour tied for 16th. The top 20 in the world were dominated by the Koreans, Dutch, French and Americans. With the exception of Ellison and Jack Williams of the United States, D’Amour was the highest-ranking archer in the Western Hemisphere.  Below are the final rankings of the top 20 archers in the World.

Next week, D’Amour and his coach, Angelo Ruiz Acevedo, will be traveling to Madrid at the invitation of the Spanish Olympic Archery team. They will spend three weeks training and competing with the Spanish team in preparation for the Continental Olympic Qualifier in Monterrey, Mexico.

Upon his return, he, along with Anne Abernathy and Bruce Arnold, will travel to Monterrey, Mexico, for the Monterrey 2021 XXV Pan American Championships OG CQT and IV Parapan American Championships PG CQT from March 22-28. In Monterrey, the three members of the Virgin Islands Olympic team hope to secure a spot to compete at the Tokyo Olympics. There will be one final opportunity for the Virgin Islands team to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics at the 2021 Hyundai Archery World Cup stage 3, from June 22-27 in Paris.
