Frederiksted Health Care Inc. (FHC) has opened its new location at Mall of St. Croix (Sunshine Mall) in Estate Cane.

Due to COVID-19, the board of directors and management decided to host a small, soft opening celebration for the new site, the Lena Shulterbrandt Health Center.  The event was held on Jan. 7, 2021.

The new health center was named in honor of Lena Shulterbrandt; a cultural icon, an advocate for the Town of Frederiksted and a nine-term board chair of Frederiksted Health Care Inc.  FHC is honored that Lena Schulterbrandt served and led Team FHC. The board of directors and management believes that her spirit and her love for St. Croix will endure forever. Schulterbrandt’s son, Stewart Shulterbrandt, and other relatives were present for the soft-opening.

John Abrabson, board chair, said, “Ms. Schulterbrandt dedicated so much of her time and service to Frederiksted Health Care.  She served on the board of directors for over 40 years, and we are humbled to dedicate this site in her honor.”

The event included tours of the new health center, which will have seven exam rooms, a lab and future plans to expand and provide dental services to provide both medical and dental services to expand access to care for St. Croix.

“I am grateful for the opening of this new health center, which will expand access to health care in the western part of the island. I am particularly proud of the opportunity to expand services to our community,” said CEO Sprauve-Webster.

FHC believes that access to quality health care is an important building block that helps the community prosper and grow. This new site opens the door to many who have difficulty accessing care. Frederiksted Health Care believes that communities should have access to care around every corner. People should not have to traverse the island seeking care. As a health provider, Frederiksted Health Care is confident that this new health center will help improve community health and be a valuable resource that will serve people for years to come.

Among the board members and family members of the late Lena Schulterbrandt were Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and first lady Yolanda Bryan. The center will begin receiving patients at 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 11.
