25-Year-Old Man Shot to Death in Frederiksted

A 25-year-old St. Croix man was shot to death Sunday evening at the Fish Market in Frederiksted, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 25-year-old Jahmandi Simon. His death was the 24th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 45th in the territory, according to the Source homicide list.*

According to the police report, at about 6:01 p.m. on Dec. 27, the 911 emergency call center received calls of shots fired on Fisher Street, Frederiksted, at the Fish Market. Officers traveled to the area and found an adult male on the ground with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives urged anyone who saw what happened to contact police by calling 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip services, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).

Tips to Crime Stoppers that result in a case being resolved can qualify the caller for an anonymous cash reward.

* The Source homicide list is based on VIPD reports, but unlike the police list or those in some other media, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, leading to a difference in the total number of incidents reported.
