The anonymous tip service Crime Stoppers USVI has focused on a kidnapping and attempted bank robbery on St. Croix, a pair of homicides and theft of $100,000 worth of video equipment as the Crimes of the Week.
ST. CROIX – On Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, a masked gunman wearing coveralls and gloves abducted an officer of the Oriental Bank from the victim’s private home and transported her to the bank where she worked in an attempt to rob it. Inside the bank, the gunman directed the employee to give him money from the vault, but he was unsuccessful. Another bank employee arrived at around 7 a.m. and, becoming concerned, called the police. While V.I. Police Department officers were in the area of the bank, the kidnapped employee emerged from the bank and notified officers of the situation. Subsequently, police learned the suspect fled the area in the bank employee’s vehicle. VIPD officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit, but the suspect evaded capture in the Annaly Bay area, and is still at large.
ST. CROIX – On Sept. 29, 2018, Ulcier Nehemiah Crump, 33, also known as Brandon Nesbett, was shot to death in El Rincon Bar, Queen Street, Frederiksted. According to the police report, at about 10:45 p.m. 911 received a report of a shooting at the El Rincon Bar. Upon arrival, investigators determined that Crump had been in the bar when someone entered and fired multiple shots, striking Crump in the upper body. The shooter then fled the area on foot. Emergency medical technicians at the scene were unable to resuscitate the victim. Crump apparently had no relatives on the island.
ST. THOMAS – At approximately 2:42 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, the Major Crimes Unit of the VIPD was dispatched to the area of Polyberg Hill in reference to a homicide. Upon our arrival to the scene officers observed a male, lying on his back on the sidewalk. The man was positively identified by his next of kin as 39-year-old Jermaine Godeth.
ST. THOMAS – At 11:52 p.m., Oct. 10, 2020, the 911 dispatcher received a call that a vehicle parked in the area of Embers Guest House had been broken into and more than $100,000 worth of video equipment had been removed from the vehicle. Based on the information provided by the victim, cases of various sizes containing approximately 100 pieces of video equipment were removed. The victim said he had been in the area for approximately one hour and when he returned to the car, he found the rear glass broken and the items removed.
