The V.I. Police Department is seeking a “person of interest” in a shooting that took place Sunday in downtown Frederiksted that left 27-year-old Joseph Leonardo Clarke dead.

Police distributed what appears to be a security camera photo of a person. The police news release did not say where or when the photo was taken. The figure in the photo appears to be holding a handgun.

According to the police report, at about 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, the 911 emergency call center received a report of shots fired at the corner of King Street and Market Street in downtown Frederiksted. Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive man, later identified as Clarke, with gunshot wounds to the body. The police also reported that a minor in a passing vehicle also was injured by a non-life-threatening gunshot. The minor was treated at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and released.
