STX Man Killed in Shooting at Louis Brown Villas

A man was killed Thursday morning after he was shot in an attack in the Louis Brown Villas housing community, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 28-year-old Jonathan Fontanelle.

It was the 13th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 30th of territory, according to the Source’s homicide list.*

According to the police, at 7:48 a.m. Thursday, July 23, the 911 emergency call center received a report of shots being fired in the Louis Brown Villas housing community.

The witness told the 911 dispatcher that she had been on the phone with the victim when she heard gunshot sounds through the phone. The victim then stated that he was being attacked. Officers traveled to the scene and found the victim with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

VIPD is appealing to the community for information in this and any other open cases. Police urge anyone with information to call 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crimes Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.

* The Source homicide list is based on VIPD reports, but unlike the police list or the lists on some other media, the Source list does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, which can lead to a difference in the number of incidents reported.
