In-Person V.I. Bar Exam Canceled; Remote Bar Exam Set for October 5-6

The Scales of Justice

Chief Justice Rhys S. Hodge signed an administrative order yesterday canceling the in-person administration of the two-day Virgin Islands Bar Examination scheduled for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 2020. The Office of Bar Admissions will administer a remote bar examination offered by the National Conference of Bar Examiners on Oct. 5-6. This action is taken in response to the change in circumstances surrounding the spread of the coronavirus throughout the territory.

The public and the Virgin Islands Bar Association are also advised that certain requirements under Rule 201 have also been temporarily suspended amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, applicants for pro hac vice admission will not be required to produce certificates of good standing from every jurisdiction of admission. An application for pro hac vice admission will be deemed complete so long as it is accompanied by a single certificate of good standing demonstrating that the applicant is currently in good standing as an active member of the bar of any state or territory of the United States or of the District of Columbia.
