The District Court of the Virgin Islands continues to monitor the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). In so doing, the Honorable Chief Judge Wilma A. Lewis issued the Second Order Concerning Access to the Almeric L. Christian Federal Building and Courthouse and the Ron de Lugo Federal Building and Courthouse During COVID-19 Outbreak on Thursday, June 4.
All persons seeking entry to or occupying the federal buildings, including tenants and their staffs, court personnel, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, litigants, other participants in court cases, security personnel, vendors, contractors, persons with other business at the federal buildings, visitors and the general public, must wear a face covering or mask that covers the wearer’s nose and mouth while in the common areas of the federal buildings.
The common areas of the buildings will include the entrance areas, lobbies, balconies, public corridors, elevators, restrooms, stairwells, garages, courtrooms and any other areas of the federal buildings where the public generally has access. The only persons excepted from this requirement are those who provide documentation that they are unable for medical reasons to wear a face covering and children under the age of two years old.
All persons shall engage in social distancing while in the common areas of the federal buildings, which requires that individuals maintain at least a six-foot distance from each other. All persons shall comply with the signage posted in the buildings. The United States Marshals Service, the Federal Protective Service and Court Security Officers will enforce this order.
This order is effective immediately and shall remain in effect pending further Order of the Court.
