Viya Upgrades to Its Fixed and Wireless Networks

Viya, the leading telecommunications provider in the U.S. Virgin Islands, in its quest to continually improve connectivity in the community, has announced several recent network upgrades, including three new cell sites, which will expand wireless coverage throughout the territory.

Viya has been working diligently to increase bandwidth on all islands to facilitate faster speeds and to ensure that its customers have the best communication experience.

Viya Chief Executive Officer Geraldine Pitt said, “Viya understands that keeping the territory connected is even more critical at a time that almost everyone has had to embrace distance learning and learn to work remotely. COVID-19 has dramatically impacted how the world engages with each other, whether for education, business or entertainment. We must keep up with the increased demand for service to ensure that our customers are satisfied.”

Viya is the only provider in the US Virgin Islands to provide a full suite of telecommunications services. Because it has both a wired and a wireless network, it is uniquely equipped to provide multiple solutions for customers to stay connected.

The latest additions to the wireless network are located at Hotel on the Cay and Estate Diamond on St. Croix, and Red Hook 0n St. Thomas.

The two locations in St. Croix were strategically chosen to provide enhanced wireless service in heavily traversed areas.

The Hotel on the Cay facility provides enhanced service to downtown Christiansted and ensures that businesses, government agencies and tourist attractions enjoy Viya’s expanded wireless coverage.

The Estate Diamond cell site is a beacon for an area that serves as both a major commercial and residential hub. With the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center, Sunny Isle Shopping Center, Peppertree Terrace, Mary’s Fancy and Queen’s Quarter in close proximity, thousands of Viya customers will be able to enjoy the most reliable service in the Virgin Islands.

The Red Hook cell site provides coverage to the business district, the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School and the Urman Victor Fredericks Marine Terminal. This very busy locale is already benefitting from the additional capacity provided by the new facility.

Pitt said, “Wireless coverage is more important than ever as wireless devices, including MiFis, are the lifeline for many Virgin Islands students and employees who require service at home or at a remote location. We know that the community is depending on reliable, affordable service, and we are best suited to provide it to them.”
