My Brother’s Workshop Partners With DOE to Distribute Meals

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s (VIDE) “No V.I. Child Goes Hungry” feeding initiative, which distributes breakfast and lunch to V.I. students each weekday during school closures due to COVID-19, will expand distribution to three additional sites on St. Croix, beginning May 4 and May 6.

Breakfast and lunch will be distributed between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at all sites through the close of the school year on June 4. There is no change to distribution sites in the St. Thomas-St. John District.

May 4 – 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Meal distributions will begin at Arthur A. Richards K-8 School

May 6 – 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Meal distributions will begin at Estate Whim Ballpark and the William’s Delight Community Center

The Department of Education is pleased to announce that volunteers from My Brother’s Workshop will assist with meal distributions at the Whim and William’s Delight locations.

“My Brother’s Workshop is honored to partner with the Department of Education on this initiative,” said Jenny Hawkes, executive director. “We are ready to help DOE reach as many students as we can during this difficult time. Many people are struggling and need extra assistance, and MBW will help in any way we can to help strengthen the community.”

Assistant Education Commissioner Victor Somme III welcomes the partnership.

“My Brother’s Workshop is a prominent, nonprofit public service entity that provides hope, faith and promise to at-risk and high-risk youth in the Virgin Islands, through mentorship, counseling and education,” he said. “They are perfect partners to the VIDE.”

Personal identification and/or proof of the number of children in household are not required to pick up meals.
