Racial Harmony Task Force Gives Diversity Award to Brandon Kalloo

The Racial Harmony and Cultural Awareness Task Force has given Brandon Kalloo the Diversity Award. A St. Thomas native, Kalloo has been presented with the Mary Sue Rich Racial Diversity Award in the individual achievement category.

Winners in several categories were announced Tuesday, at the Racial Harmony and Cultural Awareness Task Force Unity Breakfast in Ocala, Fla.

Kalloo is the public information officer for Marion County, Fla. Marion is Florida’s fifth largest county by area and has 350,000 residents.

He was nominated for the award after launching the county’s first multi-platform social media campaign focused on Black History Month. The campaign received 40,000 impressions during its run.

The task force was established in 2000 to promote a community of inclusiveness while celebrating racial and cultural heritage. It is spearheaded by City Councilwoman Mary Sue Rich.

The awards, which also include an unsung hero and an organization award, have been presented annually since 2003.
