DSPR Lists Upcoming Athletic Programs for All Age Groups

The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation (DSPR) is holding true to its motto “We commit to keep you fit.” The staff has been working diligently to implement multiple programs for all ages. The following is a list of upcoming programs that range from the youngest participant to the eldest.

First Steps Athletic Program will introduce four sports to ages 3-5, tee ball, basketball, soccer and running. The goal of program is to get children excited about the game and motivate them to continue playing as they grow older. This program will operate from 4-5:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; drop-off begins at 3:30 p.m. Locations and activities are:
Rudy Krieger Complex – Soccer/ Running/ Basketball
D.C. Canegata Ballpark – Tee Ball and Basketball
Renholdt Jackson Complex – Tee Ball and Basketball
Isaac Boynes Ballpark – Running/ Basketball/ Tee Ball

Registration is open and will continue until Oct. 18. Registration is free; applications can be picked up at Rudy Krieger Complex (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), D.C. Canegata Office (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Isaac Boynes Ballpark (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or the Department of Sports and Recreation main office in William D. Roebuck Industrial Park. Program will operate from Oct. 21 to Dec. 20.

Learn 2 Swim is open to the general public and offers classes for children ages 5 to adult seniors (66+). Registration has begun and will continue until Oct. 18 at the DSPR main office. The six-week program will be held every Saturday beginning Oct. 19 and ending on Nov. 23. The program fee is $5 per class or $30 for the six weeks.

Locations are Vincent Mason Beach area (Frederiksted) and Altoona Lagoon (Christiansted); there are three class time options: 9 a.m. (Children Classes), 10 a.m. (Adult Classes) or 11 a.m. (Children’s Classes).

The DSPR Governmental League is inviting all government agencies and local industrial businesses to register for the upcoming St. Croix Governmental and Industrial Co-Ed League. The following events and dates are as follows: (dates and times subject to change)
Softball – Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 through March 5, 2020
Basketball – Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through May 21, 2020
Biggest Loser – April 1 through June 7, 2020

Men’s Fastpitch League will begin on Jan. 17, 2020, and the deadline to register teams at the DSPR main office is Dec. 13, 2019. The league is open to boys and men ages 14 and older. Games will alternate between the D.C. Canegata Ballpark and the Renholdt Jackson Complex, each weekend. Applications can be picked up from the main office or emailed upon request.

Women’s 40+ Modified League will begin on March 6, 2020. Teams are asked to register no later than Jan. 31, 2020. Games will also alternate between the D.C. Canegata Ballpark and the Renholdt Jackson Complex, each weekend. Applications can be picked up from the main office or emailed upon request.
