Search for Missing Woman Continues in Park

Virgin Islands National Park staff continued searching for missing tourist Lucy Schuhmann, 48 of Kentucky, on Monday.

The park was joined Monday by U.S. Coast Guard air operations as park staff focused its search along the southern shoreline of the park, near the location where Schuhmann’s rental vehicle was parked.

During a briefing Monday morning, Park Superintendent Nigel A. Fields reiterated the urgency of the mission.

“Finding Lucy is a top priority,” Fields said.

Since she was first reported missing the V.I. Police Department and St. John Rescue have supported efforts to locate Lucy as the search area expands.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Virgin Islands as Tropical Storm Karen approaches the territory, with a Tuesday morning arrival likely, and marine ports are expected to close later today.

Lucy was reported missing on Thursday by the proprietor of the vacation rental where she was staying in Coral Bay on St. John. Park staff are in close contact and assisting the family of Ms. Schuhmann, who request privacy at this time, Fields said.

Officials urged anyone with information that might assist in the search to call 866-995-8467, option 2.
