A woman was injured when she was struck by a man who stole her purse and ran, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to police, at about 1:32 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call directed patrol officers to the downtown area of Guttets Gade, Charlotte Amalie, in response to reported first-degree robbery.
At the scene the officers met with the victim, whose name was not released by the VIPD in accordance with department policy. The woman told them she had been walking on Guttets Gade, talking on her cellphone, when she noticed an unknown black male with dreadlocks, wearing dark clothing, walking behind of her. The suspect then rushed towards her and struck her with what appeared to be a gun. As a result, the victim suffered injuries to her head area, police said.
The victim told officers the suspect took her black Calvin Klein purse containing cash, her bank cards and her personal ID items. The suspect then ran away towards the Savan area. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Schneider regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
She told officers that she does not know who may have robbed her and that she has no issues with anyone.
This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
