Ellis Purcell Dies at 90

Ellis “Amaretto” Purcell from Stoney Ground died on Aug. 30 in Orlando, Fla., after a short illness. He was 90 years old and was a native of Trinidad.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Huntley Purcell; sons: Dale Purcell (Calif.), Desmond Purcell (St. Thomas), Kevin Purcell (Fla.), Lester Purcell (Fla.), Willis Purcell (Fla.), Timothy Ferguson (N.D.) and Danny Ferguson (N.D.); adopted sons: Barry (N.Y.) and Kirby (Fla.); daughters: Shanna Purcell (N.C.), Heather Ferguson (St. Croix), Emily Ferguson (St. Croix), Sandi Ferguson (N.D.) and Holly Ferguson (N.D.); and grandsons: Quincy Sellgren (Wash.), Miguel Ferguson (St. Croix), Bryan Ferguson (St. Croix), Joseph Ferguson (St. Croix), Joden Ferguson (St. Croix), Jayden Ferguson (St. Croix), Mason Ferguson (St. Croix) and Tony Burns (N.C.).

He is also survived by granddaughters: Destiny Liles (N.C.), Kiara Purcell (Fla.), Kymorah Purcell (Fla.), Jahleah Purcell (Fla.), Alicia Ferguson (St. Croix), Alana Ferguson (St. Croix), Alena Ferguson (St. Croix), Brianna Ferguson (St. Croix), Malena Ferguson (St. Croix), Melanie Ferguson (St. Croix), Cali Ferguson (St. Croix), Madison Ferguson (St. Croix); great-grandson, Martin Ferguson (St. Croix); great-granddaughter, Nailie Ferguson (St. Croix); and brothers: Rudolph Purcell (Trinidad and Tobago), Ventor Purcell (T and T), Errol Purcell (T and T), Ralph Joseph (T and T) and Frankie Charles (T and T).

Other survivors include sisters: Jennifer Thomas (Md.), Elizabeth Purcell (T and T) and Wilma Charles (T and T); brothers-in-law: Hollis Huntley (N.J.), Cecil Huntley (Md.), Milton “Joe” Huntley (U.K.) and Fitzroy Thomas (Md.); daughters-in-law: Colette Purcell (Fla.), Shenelle Purcell (Fla.), Lydia Magras (St. Thomas) and Seleina Gardener (Fla.); as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention.

A Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, at Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church in Frederiksted.
