STT Gunshot Victim Dies of Wound

A man who suffered a gunshot wound Wednesday evening and made his way for help to the Emile C. Berry Fire Station on St. Thomas died of his wounds at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the Source homicide listing*, it was the 11th homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 24th in the territory. The victim’s name had not been released by early Thursday afternoon as police waited for notification of next of kin.

According to police, at 9:22 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the VIPD Richard N. Callwood Command and from the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to a call from the fire station in Dorothea reporting a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, the officers made contact with a man who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the neck area. With emergency medical technicians on the scene, the victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The man succumbed to his injuries.

Criminal Investigation Bureau officers’ preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been shot elsewhere and drove himself to the Dorothea Fire Station seeking refuge.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the VIPD at 340-774-2211 ext. 5617, the Major Crime Unit at 340-714-9830, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9807, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.

* The Source homicide list is based on police reports but, unlike the VIPD list and those in other media, does not include suicides or vehicular homicides.
