Five masked, armed men robbed a popular Smith Bay sports bar Tuesday night, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to police, at about 11:39 p.m. the VIPD patrol officers were dispatched to the Galaxy Sports Bar in Smith Bay. At the scene, the officers were told the same story by multiple witnesses.
The witness told officers that five masked and armed individuals entered the bar and ordered everyone to get down on the floor. The suspects began to take cash from the occupant’s person and then proceeded to empty the bar’s cash register of its contents.
Witnesses said one victim refused to obey the robbers demand and was assaulted, being struck repeatedly by a weapon several times resulting in a laceration to the head. The robbers then exited the premises with an undisclosed amount of cash from the victims and the business.
The assaulted victim was attended to by emergency personnel on site and no transport to a medical facility occurred.
This case is classified as a first-degree robbery. This case is presently under the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
