STX: Mutual Homes Man Shot and Killed

A 20-year-old St. Croix man was shot and killed Saturday evening at the Mutual Homes housing community, the V.I. Police reported.

The victim was identified as Taheem “Debo” Samuel, a resident of the housing community. According to the Source homicide listing*, it was the 13th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 22nd in the territory.

According to police, at 7:43 p.m. Saturday the 911 call center received a report of shots fired in Mutual Homes area and of a man down.

At the scene, officers and detectives found the lifeless body, described in the report as “a black Rasta male,” outside of Building 33. He had sustained multiple gun shot wounds to his body. Detectives canvassed the area in an attempt to locate possible witnesses, but did not find anyone.

Police said as of Sunday no motive had been established the shooting.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau urged anyone with information about the crime to contact the VIPD at 340-778-2211, the 911 emergency call center or the anonymous tip services, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).

* The Source homicide list is based on police reports but, unlike the VIPD list and those in other media, does not include suicides or vehicular homicides.
