Winston Fitzgerald Quammie quietly left us on July 15, just 14 days before his 92nd birthday at Capital Caring Halquist Center in Arlington, Virginia. Winston was born on July 29, 1927, in Caracas, Venezuela, to the late Ivy (nee Brathwaite) and Percival Quammie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ivy Brathwaite; father, Percival Quammie; spouse, Rita Quammie; son, Alan Durity; sister, Sylvia Massaqoui; brother-in-law, Johannes Massaqoui; brother, Vere Quammie; and aunt, Audrey Brathwaite.
He is survived by many, many relatives, close friends and associates, including, to name a few, his brother, Ewart Quammie; sisters: Sheila Williams, Ramona Taylor and Merle Bethel; sisters-in-law: Joan Quammie and Corine Dopwell; brother-in-law, Alston Bethel; sons: Stephen Durity, Roger Durity, Alan Durity and Terrance Durity; daughters: Irma Josiah, Glenda Isidore, Sharon Lambert, Claire Moore-Herry and Jennifer Quammie; and adopted daughter, Abena Durity.
He is also survived by sons-in-law: Wing Sing Yetsam, Nelson Herry and Andrew Isidore; nieces: Notisha Massaqoui, Heather Massaqoui, Keisha Quammie, Charmaine Timmons and Juliet Phillips Blake; nephews: Rudie Williams, Kurt Quammie, Keldon Quammie, George Harley Jr., Jomo Dopwell, Zekomo Dopwell, Shawn and Samuel Timmons; grandchildren: Gareth Mckell, Anthony, Daniel and Ivah Harris, Michael, Brian and Shannon Lambert; and very close friends: George and Roseanne Bridgewater, and Lillian Trotman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, July 29, at Divine Funeral Services Chapel, 129 Peter’s Rest. Internment follows at Kingshill Cemetery.
