Captain Morgan Rum and Stoli Vodka, distributed in the U.S. Virgin Islands by Bellows International and the West Indies Company, respectively, are the official liquors of the USVI Charter Yacht Show, according to organizer, the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association. The Yacht Show, set for Nov. 11 to 14 at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande, will highlight each of these liquors at nightly parties and in the always-anticipated Cocktail Competition – which a professional mixologist will judge this year.
“Rarely is a Caribbean yacht charter complete without rum,” said Oriel Blake, executive director of the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association. “Typically, a charter crew will serve a daily “sundowner” cocktail, be it a painkiller, pina colada, dark ‘n stormy or something less traditional and specially concocted by the crew. Not all charter guests are pirates, so vodka is for those who prefer a trendy Moscow mule, screwdriver or martini. Captain Morgan and Stoli are the perfect cocktail mixers for their popularity among charter guests and ease of showcasing to charter brokers at the show.”
Captain Morgan rum, produced by Diageo USVI on St. Croix, is the namesake for the 17th century Caribbean privateer Sir Henry Morgan. Known for its Original Spiced Rum, the brand features a number of other products, including a white rum, black spiced rum and its Parrot Bay Collection, which brings tropical flavors like coconut and passion fruit to this favorite liquor.
Stoli is a premium vodka made from a combination of modern highest-quality distilling combined with century old tradition that creates its bold character.
Bellows International and the West Indies Company, based in the U.S. V.I., are the importers and wholesalers of category leading brands in segments such as distilled spirits, wine, nonalcoholic beverages, beer and premium waters.
The Store at Yacht Haven Grande and Moe’s Fresh Market are two locations where crews, as well as the public, may provision these liquors directly throughout the season.
Over 50 crewed yachts are already registered for the USVI Charter Yacht Show. These include the 105-foot sailing catamaran Bella Vita, 92-foot classic monohull August Maverick, 77-foot newly built sailing catamaran Babac, and 74-foot power-cat SeaGlass.
“We want to showcase the changes and upgrades we have completed on Bella Vita since new owners bought her last year,” said Chef Briar Smith, who with captain Oswaldo Cruz, are the vessel’s full-time permanent crew. “We also look forward to re-engaging with brokers and showing them that Bella Vita is a true charter yacht. We feel the USVI show and facilities are in line with Bella Vita’s quality of service and professionalism.”
Bella Vita has recently been re-fit. New interior and exterior features include flooring and ceiling panels, upholstery, bathroom and galley fixtures and trampolines. New systems include sky/satellite TV and a deck movie projector. Toys onboard span from a floatie island that accommodates eight people to two sea scooters and fishing gear, to name a few. Bella Vita’s most unique features are the crow’s nest, which lifts up to three guests at a time halfway up the mast, and the vessel’s stern dive platform. Stability is unsurpassed with her 47-foot beam. The aft deck offers panoramic views, seating for 15 and shelter from the sun and wind. Bella Vita charters with 10 passengers in five cabins.

The new Blue Eleven restaurant will be this year’s Cocktail Competition venue. New too, a professional mixologist will judge the entries. Participating crews will create one cocktail each in front of the mixologist using Stoli vodka and Captain Morgan rum as star ingredients. The Best in Competition champions for each cocktail will win a case of premium stock. The competition will take place at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12.
“This year we have intentionally separated the Cocktail Competition from the evening Yacht Hop in order to raise the judging standards of both events. The 2019 Yacht Hop theme is “Circumnavigation.” Yachts are invited to decorate their vessel to represent any country or region and to give the charter brokers a good representation of a classy party environment onboard,” said Blake.
Caribbean Fusion is the 2019 Culinary Competition theme. Chefs must make a dinner main entrée and dessert using the contents of a ‘surprise basket’ of ingredients donated by Pure Imagination Farms. Chefs are required to register at www.vipca.org/culinary-competition/ as soon as spaces are limited.
The 2019 USVI Charter Yacht Show’s dynamic action-packed schedule features four days of yacht viewing: an outstanding opportunity for yachts and crews to highlight signature services, features and amenities to brokers.
