Man Shot to Death Near Coki Point

A man was shot and killed Thursday evening in the Coki Point area on St. Thomas, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 27-year-old Clement Alturo King III. It was the eighth homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 16th in the territory.

According to police, at about 8:57 p.m. Thursday the 911 call center received a report of shots fired in the Coki Point area. The caller said a person might have been shot.

Units from the Mariel C. Newton Command and units from the Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to Coki Point, where the body of an unresponsive black male, later identified as King, was discovered in the roadway, near the “Feed Shop.”

The man appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body. Emergency medical technicians were on scene and concluded that the male did not have any vital signs.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 or 340-714-9830, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 800-222-8477 (800-222-TIPS.)
