CCT to Present French Farce ‘Boeing Boeing’

The cast of “Boeing Boeing”

Fasten your safety belts as Caribbean Community Theater (CCT) presents “Boeing Boeing,” a farcical romp set in 1960s Paris, full of physical comedy and zany banter. There will be six chances to catch this comedic flight this month on May 17-26.

CCT continues its 34th season with “Boeing Boeing,” a comedy by Marc Camoletti, translated by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans. There will be six performances of this play over two weekends: Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., May 17-18 and 24-25, with two Sunday matinees on May 19 and 26 at 4 p.m.

This French farce, adapted for the English-speaking stage, features self-styled playboy Bernard, who has Italian, German and American fiancées, each a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes cause an uproar in their lives, and hilarious calamity ensues.

“Boeing Boeing” is directed by Annie Barry Pendley and Malerie Gleason (who is also cast in this play). The talented cast consists of Erin Gilbert, Wendy Keeler Adams, Paul Nawrocki, Tyler Olson and Diana Prince.

“The latest edition of a play named for an aircraft soars right out of its time zone and into some unpolluted stratosphere of classic physical comedy. Propelled by the same gusty spirit that animated commedia dell’arte and the silent films of Keaton, Chaplin and Lloyd, [this] may be earthy, but it’s seldom earthbound.” – The New York Times

Tickets are $20 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students and CCT members. They may be purchased (for cash only) at the CCT box office prior to each show, which opens 45 minutes before curtain. This play is not recommended for children under age 13.

All performances are held at the Caribbean Community Theatre at 18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted, St. Croix.

CCT productions are jointly supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, and co-sponsored by Christiansted Apothecary Hall, JKC Communications of the VI, Marshall & Sterling Insurance, Seascape Pool Center and Team Consultants.
