Acting Police Commissioner Jason K. Marsh has started the “Do the Right Thing” Vehicle Enforcement Campaign, in which the V.I. Police Department will increase enforcement of all unregistered vehicles and unlicensed drivers in the territory, rewarding people who have their papers in order, the department said in a news release issued Wednesday.
During these random checks, motorists who have all their documents up to date – including a valid driver’s license, the vehicle’s registration and the vehicles proof of insurance – the operator and/or owner of the vehicle will be eligible to receive a free ticket to one of the Virgin Islands Carnival Committee’s upcoming events in the St. Thomas District.
Also included in the giveaway are free lunches/dinners at St. Thomas and St. Croix restaurants. The initiative will cover the entire territory from March 11 through May.
Marsh and/or his designee will present all prizes personally during those vehicle stops, the VIPD said in its news release.

Will their inspections include enforcement of vehicle safety requirements such as broken headlights, tail lights and windshields, that somehow “passed” the DMV inspection?
Rewarding people for having proper documentation to legally operate a vehicle? What’s up with that? Wake me up when they start rewarding people who snitch on those who are committing insurance fraud and a host of other scams depriving the territory of much-needed funds.You don’t reward people for doing what the law
