V.I. Forecast: Potential for Light to Moderate Showers

Patches of low-level moisture will continue to move across the the region from time to time over the next several days increasing the potential for light to moderate showers. A surface ridge remains east of the local area through Saturday weakening the trade wind cap, and allowing more moisture to filter into the area. The mid to upper-levels of the atmosphere however, contain limited moisture, and as a result, showers will be short-lived. Another trough is expected to move into the Atlantic waters next week which will cause the mid to upper-level ridge to weaken and once again increase the potential for shower activity.

Mariners can expect choppy and hazardous seas to eight feet across the offshore waters and passages, and up to six feet in most of the coastal waters. Small craft advisories remain in effect for much of the local waters today. Marine conditions are forecast to slowly improve by Friday. However, small craft operators should continue to exercise caution.

There is a high risk of rip currents for some of the northern beaches of St. Thomas and a moderate risk of rip currents for most of the remaining beaches of the Virgin islands.
