Two Killed in STX Car Collision

Two men from Texas working at Lime Tree Bay were killed early Friday in a two-car collision that resulted in the toppling of an old landmark, the V.I. Police Department reported.

At around 1 a.m. Friday VIPD officers and emergency medical attendants responded to a collision, which occurred in the vicinity of Rattan Road and Sion Valley intersection and the old rusty tank. According to the VIPD report, a green Jeep wrangler was heading westbound on Rattan Road while a blue Isuzu Rodeo was heading north, making a right turn eastbound.

The driver and passenger in the Jeep Wrangler – driver Roy M. George, 29, and passenger Thomas Q. Lavell, 35, both contract workers at Lime Tree Bay from Texas – died of their injuries after their vehicle hit the tank, knocking it over.

The driver in the other vehicle, a blue Rodeo, sustained minimal injury.

The driver of the Rodeo told police he was stopped at the intersection when he saw the Jeep Wrangler approaching at a high rate of speed. He said he felt an impact to his vehicle and saw the Jeep hit the rusty tank causing it to fall.

This collision remains under investigation by the VIPD Traffic Division.
