One Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting at UVI

The V.I. Police Department reported that one person was injured Wednesday in an officer-involved shooting at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Thomas campus and was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The VIPD’s statement on the incident released no details about the person who had been shot other than to refer to that person as “the suspect,” and did not give the name, age or sex of the person, or whether he or she had any connection with UVI.

According to the report, at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday the 911 call center dispatched patrol units to the UVI in reference to an officer-involved shooting.

Arriving at the campus at about 6:20 p.m., officers made contact with the the UVI security officer involved in the shooting, whose name also was not released by the police. The suspect had already been transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
